After 8 years, Railways resumed direct recruitment at railway stations

The Indian Railway Ministry has indeed announced the resumption of direct recruitment for train control department posts, including station masters, after an eight-year hiatus.

This recruitment drive, set to begin in 2025, will be conducted through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) under Centralized Employment Notification (CEN) No. 05/2024 for Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) Graduate posts.

The initiative aims to fill approximately 11,558 vacancies, with 60% of the train control department vacancies reserved for graduates. Key posts include Station Master, Goods Guard, Senior Clerk, and others, with a significant portion of the recruitment targeting roles critical to train operations.

The process involves a multi-stage selection, including a Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by a Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for Station Master and Train Manager roles, document verification, and medical examination.

Eligibility requires a degree from a recognized university, with age limits between 18 and 36 years as of July 1, 2025, and relaxations for reserved categories. The application process is online via the RRB website (rrbapply.gov.in), with fees of INR 500 for general candidates and INR 250 for SC/ST, PwBD, female, transgender, ex-servicemen, and economically backward classes.

This move addresses the long-standing gap in direct recruitment, which was paused since 2017, and aims to bolster staffing in critical railway operations.

For the most accurate and detailed information, candidates should refer to official RRB websites, as social media and unofficial sources may circulate misleading information.
