SBI Clerk 2025: Selection Process Prelims and Mains Exams

The SBI Clerk 2025 Selection Process for the recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) consists of three main stages, as outlined by the State Bank of India (SBI) in the official notification (Advertisement No: CRPD/CR/2024-25/24). Below is a concise breakdown of the process:

1. Preliminary Examination (Phase I):

  • Purpose: Screening test to shortlist candidates for the Mains exam.
  • Format: Online, objective-type test.
  • Structure:
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Sections:
    • English Language: 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes
    • Numerical Ability: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes
    • Reasoning Ability: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes
  • Negative Marking: 1/4th mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Qualification: Candidates must achieve the cut-off score (determined by SBI, varying by state and category). Marks obtained in Prelims are not considered for the final merit list.
  • Note: Approximately 10 times the number of vacancies (around 141,910 candidates for 14,191 vacancies) are shortlisted for the Mains exam.

2. Main Examination (Phase II):

  • Purpose: Primary evaluation stage for final selection.
  • Format: Online, objective-type test.
  • Structure:
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Duration: 2 hours 40 minutes
  • Sections:
    • General/Financial Awareness: 50 questions, 50 marks, 35 minutes
    • General English: 40 questions, 40 marks, 35 minutes
    • Quantitative Aptitude: 50 questions, 50 marks, 45 minutes
    • Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude: 50 questions, 60 marks, 45 minutes
  • Negative Marking: 1/4th mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Qualification: Marks obtained in the Mains exam form the basis of the final merit list. Candidates must score above the state-wise and category-wise cut-off.
  • 2025 Exam Dates: Conducted on April 10 and 12, 2025.
  • Note: No interview is conducted; the Mains score determines eligibility for the next stage.

3. Test of Specified Opted Local Language (Phase III):

  • Purpose: To ensure candidates are proficient in the local language of the state they applied for.
  • Process:
  • Candidates who qualify the Mains exam undergo a Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT).
  • Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the specified local language of the state/UT they applied for (e.g., Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, etc., based on the state).
  • Those who have studied the specified local language in Class 10 or 12 are exempt from the LPT, upon submitting relevant certificates.
  • Qualification: Passing the LPT is mandatory for final selection. Failure to qualify results in disqualification.
  • Note: The LPT is conducted after Mains but before final selection, and its schedule is announced post-Mains results.

Final Selection:

  • Merit List: Prepared based on Mains exam scores, subject to qualifying the LPT.
  • Document Verification: Candidates must submit required documents (e.g., educational certificates, ID proof, category certificates) for verification.
  • Vacancies: 14,191 Junior Associate posts (including 456 backlog vacancies and 50 for Ladakh).
  • Tie-Breaker: If two candidates score the same marks, seniority (older age) determines higher rank.

Additional Notes:

  • No Interview: Unlike other SBI exams (e.g., PO), the Clerk recruitment does not include an interview.
  • Result Timeline: The Mains result for 2025 is expected soon (potentially by late May 2025), followed by the LPT for shortlisted candidates.
  • Fraud Alert: SBI only publishes roll/registration numbers of selected candidates, not names. Candidates should verify results only through sbi.co.in/web/careers and avoid fake lists.
  • Preparation for LPT: Candidates should ensure proficiency in the local language of their applied state, as listed in the SBI notification.
